As we get set for the 102nd edition of the WLOCP, I must once again acknowledge how grateful I am that a former Dawgs football player is running the program. Coach Kirby Smart is one of us, and the idea of losing to Florida is equally repulsive to CKS as it is to Dawg Nation. We all have painful memories and know that this is one of the most unpredictable rivalry games. All stats, rankings, etc. can be thrown out the window. I'm not going to try to overanalyze the game in my typical fashion, and will try a different approach instead.
As you all know, opposing SEC fans spent the better part of the 2000s needling Dawg Nation about the amount of time that had passed since UGA last won a national championship. Now that our Dawgs have won back-to-back national championships, am I going to be the bigger man and take the high road? Absolutely not!! It has been 5,406 days since the Florida Gators won a national championship. Here's to many more! In case you were wondering how much time has passed since the rest of the SEC schools last won a national championship, I pulled together the chart below.
I know that this game will be a battle, and the current #1 ranking for our Dawgs means nothing. But I'll take my chances any day with Kirby Smart at the helm.
Go Dawgs!
